Clinical Hypnosis

January 20th, 2011 by admin

Clinical Hypnosis is a procedure in which an individual is taught to enter a state of heightened focus, relaxation and suggestibility. This hypnotic trance state becomes the basis for alleviating or resolving medical and psychological symptoms, as well as enhancing performance and creativity. However, for many people hypnosis conjures up images of zombie-like states where you are under the control of someone else (a “Svengali”), or of a stage full of fools clucking like chickens. These images are understandable given how hypnosis is often portrayed by the media. As entertaining as these images may be, they also perpetuate myths and misconceptions that prevent many people from pursuing a treatment that can be a valuable clinical tool.

Myth #1: Hypnosis is an “unnatural state” of mind

Hypnosis is actually a natural trance state that almost anyone can relate to. Here are some familiar examples: becoming absorbed in a good book, day dreaming, driving a familiar route on a freeway but missing your exit because the mind was “somewhere else,” or watching a movie. Consider the movie example in more detail. The “reality” of a movie-going experience is sitting in a darkened room with several hundred strangers mesmerized by a flickering light on a silver screen. Yet if the acting, writing, and directing are captivating enough, the reality is suspended and whatever is being suggested (amusement, fear, sadness, etc) is what is experienced by the viewer. In this natural trance state you are in full control and could easily get up and walk away if you wanted to. Typically you leave only if what the movie is suggesting to you is not pleasing! All hypnosis is essentially self-hypnosis. The hypnotist is only a guide in the process of teaching the individual to bring about the trance state readily.

Myth #2: Hypnosis is sleep

Although hypnosis can produce profound states of deep relaxation it is not sleep. The hypnotized subject is actually aware and in control at all times.

Myth#3: Only the weak minded or gullible people can be hypnotized

Virtually everyone can experience hypnosis. People appear to have greater or lesser natural hypnotic ability. Generally those with higher levels of intelligence, creativity, and “fantasy-prone” behavior (such as day dreaming or being easily absorbed in books and movies) make the best subjects. Typically it is fear and misunderstanding that hinder someone from reaching deeper levels of the trance state. The hypnotic process does not involve pitting the will of the hypnotist against the will of the subject. The hypnotist is merely the guide for teaching the subject how to produce and utilize the hypnotic trance state.

Myth#4: One could end up “stuck” in hypnosis

Because hypnosis is such a pleasant state, many are reluctant to terminate it. Similarly, we might wish that a soothing massage continues indefinitely. However, even if the hypnotist were to “command” remaining in hypnosis, or if he/she has left the room, the subject would either fall asleep, or more likely simply open his/her eyes and be wide awake.

Myth#5: Hypnosis can coerce one to engage in immoral or unethical acts

Any suggestion can be rejected in hypnosis, especially those that violate a person’s beliefs or morality. The hypnotic subject is actually in full control at all times and will not comply with anything against his or her will.

Myth#6: Hypnosis is like a truth serum

Because the individual is in full control, he or she can also to edit whatever is said to the hypnotist. Just as a psychotherapy client selects his/her own level of disclosure during psychotherapy, the hypnotized subject has the same options. Hypnosis is not admissible in a court of law because distortions and actual lying is possible.

Potential Benefits of Hypnosis:

· relaxation
· stress management
· help with depression, anxiety, and phobias
· improved sleep
· smoking cessation
· modification of other bad habits
· improved cognitive functioning
· enhanced athletic, sales, or academic performance
· increased self esteem
· pain management
· optimization of other mind/body connections

Alternative Ways to Quit Smoking This New Year

January 17th, 2011 by admin

With the ever-increasing price of cigarettes, and volumes of warnings that aim to increase the public’s awareness of the dangers of cigarette smoking, you’d think it would be a no-brainer for smokers to just up and quit the habit cold turkey. However, being a former smoker myself, I know that this statement is neither realistic, nor fair.

Smoking is genuinely an addictive habit, not just mentally, although it certainly is psychologically addictive, but also physiologically, since nicotine is a substance that the body grows used to and craves, and when it is suddenly taken away, the withdrawal symptoms are anything but pleasant.

These withdrawal symptoms are the reason that many smokers never make it past a few weeks quitting the habit. It’s also the reason that quitting smoking is so hard to do, especially the longer you’ve been doing it.

I’ve heard it all when it comes to the creative ways that men and women both will try to kick the habit. Some try the cold turkey thing, although this rarely works unless you have an iron will and are able to naturally cope with the symptoms of withdrawal on your own. Some people try cigarette alternatives, like herbal cigarettes, which are designed to help get rid of the nicotine addiction since they do not contain nicotine.

However, what some people don’t realize is that herbal cigarettes are just as dangerous as smoking real cigarettes, and sometimes even more so, because they still emit carbon monoxide into the lungs and the body, and they also have carcinogenic chemicals that activate once the herbs are burned. One of the alternative cigarettes that is popular is reportedly an especially dangerous option, a tobacco and clove combination.

The cloves become extremely toxic when burned and inhaled into the lung tissue, with the potential to cause pneumonia and even pulmonary edema. They also happen to contain a lot more tobacco content than regular cigarettes, another reason to avoid them.

I’d say avoid herbal varieties of cigarettes all together if you can, even as a quitting mechanism, and instead opt for maybe a supplement or a patch to help you get through the rough patches, or try another alternative such as hypnotism. Hypnotism is one of my favorites. Self hypnosis has worked for scores of people to help them kick the habit once and for all.

It works by way of subconscious suggestion, on a subliminal level, and creates a strong desire to quit that is powerful because it comes from within your mind and is rooted in personal desire. This is one of the best ways to quit since it is truly all natural, and creates a desire beyond just a short time period of quitting that stays rooted in the subconscious for long after you’ve quit.

Of course if you ever feel yourself slipping and craving cigarettes again, you can always do “touch up” sessions of self hypnosis in your own home whenever you feel you need that positive reinforcement again.

Another popular alternative way to quit smoking currently are herbal supplements that are orally taken or adhered to the skin, in a patch form, that work sort of like a nicotine patch does, to transdermally (delivered through the skin) help you through your potential withdrawal symptoms.

The herbs are basically adhered to the skin via a patch which delivers beneficial ingredients through the skin to the blood stream, at time released intervals so you get the symptom control throughout your day, every day, to help ensure that your goals are reached.

Many people who are thinking of quitting smoking worry about the withdrawal symptoms, which include weight gain, irritability, restlessness, increased anxiety (although smoking actually increases anxiety, which many people don’t know), inability to concentrate and many other unpleasantries.

In the end, no matter which alternative method you use to help yourself permanently give up the habit of smoking, it’s going to boil down to a real concern for your health and well being, and a sustained desire to stay away from the potentially life shortening vice.

Only over time will you begin to see and feel the benefits of having clean, clear lungs such as, but not limited to, increased energy, better looking skin and teeth, and increased lung capacity, and that’s what keeps you on the wagon!

Want to Quit Smoking But Haven’t Been Able To?

January 16th, 2011 by admin

Want to Quit Smoking But Haven’t Been Able to?

Have you tried pills, patches and everything else you can think of in an effort to try to quit smoking? Since you are reading this I think it is safe to figure that whatever you have tried just has not worked for you, right?

Do you want to quit smoking, nor only to improve your health, but also to save money? Yet, when you figure out how much you have paid for all of these methods to try to quit plus the cost of the cigarettes that you are still using and you realize that you are actually out even more money than you were before you tried to stop smoking?

Does that seem right to you?

It just does not seem right to us.

Well we have come across something that is not just another pill or potion, it actually changes the way that you will think about cigarettes and smoking in general.

For years hypnosis has been used to help people to quit smoking but it can cost you hundreds or dollars and it takes a concentrated effort in order to get it to work.

Well now there is a new software that works subliminally to actually retrain your brain so that you will no longer crave cigarettes. It will help you to stop smoking even if the pills and potions have not worked for you.

This software is so easy to use. It install on your computer in a matter of minutes. It comes pre-programmed with the necessary statements you need to retrain your brain to not desire cigarettes anymore. But, you can add up to 10 extra statements to customize the program specifically for you.

Then, all you need to do is to click a button each day to get the software going. Them it will work in the background retraining your brain while you go about your business either working or having fun on your computer.

Silently the subliminal software will flash the messages telling your brain that you no longer need or want to smoke.

Every day people use subliminal software to do things like quit smoking, lose weight, become a better student, have a better memory.

It has worked for them and I am sure that it will work for you too. It is so easy! Just a click and then let the software run while you use your computer. No more pills, potions or patches. No more nicotine cravings and going crazy while you go through nicotine withdrawals.

Just a click.

You probably are figuring that this is going to be expensive right?

Wrong!

It is less than twenty dollars right now. That is only a one time fee and you can use it over and over again.

So, if you have tried everything to stop smoking and you have not been able to it is probably because you have not tried this. Using this subliminal software will actually retrain your brain so it does not rely on will power and it is the easiest way to stop smoking ever!

Quit Smoking Hypnosis- the Easy Way

January 9th, 2011 by admin

Smoking is injurious to health but can you tell me how many people around you have never tried smoking? Well there are only a few and finding people who have quit smoking is even tougher because you would hardly find many people who have quit smoking. A person who has been a smoker for many years would have started murmuring a statement to them, ‘even I want to quit smoking but I have failed in all attempts’.

Smoking Hypnosis may be the perfect option for you as it is very effective and simple too. All you have to do is find a therapist who would help you with the process.

The Technique:

For a few, the sessions can be simple but for others grueling. But the fact that makes a smoking hypnosis a huge hit is its excellent results which stop people from smoking. A typical session would include some hypnotherapy techniques, suggestions, affirmations which are all positive in nature.

Is The Process Costly?

It might seem costly to you at the beginning but if you consider the amount you have to regularly spend during your lifetime while you smoke and on various health problems, smoking hypnosis is a cheap option, not an expensive one.

What Makes Smoking Hypnosis A Success?

Although making a person quit smoking is not an easy task, this procedure is extremely effective. All that makes this process different from other techniques is that it deals with the emotional and psychological part and targets people to make them soft to give up on smoking. Hypnosis puts the mind of a smoker into an alert state and suggestions are fed into the person’s mind and not only do they easily accept them but they also implement them.

It has been proved that smoking hypnosis is successful in about two-third of the cases when it comes to quitting smoking. Generally the process requires nearly 4 sessions from an experienced therapist but for some it may be an expensive option. An experienced therapist may charge around or even more than $200 for each session but it is worth the cost.

If the above option seems expensive to you, there is a hypnosis audio program. Audio programs are becoming more popular these days because it is known to be as effective as a qualified therapist. The best part about this type of smoking hypnosis is that you can listen to instructions for as long as you want to and anytime you want to. Audio programs are cheap too but make sure that you get a good survey done before investing in any particular program.

How to Stop Smoking in 60 Days

January 8th, 2011 by admin

Of course you want to stop smoking. You want to quit smoking more than anything else, and you should! But, you just don’t know where to turn! If your like most, you may have tried patches, gum, Chantix, Zyban and/or hypnosis only to find yourself right back in the clutches of nicotine addiction! You know that your behavior is unhealthy, but you’re afraid to give up your crutch because if you do your emotional distress will worsen, and you just don’t know if you can cope without it! You know that it’s unhealthy to smoke, but you just can’t seem to stop! Unfortunately, smoking cessation programs not only fail to address the root cause of nicotine addiction, but they also fail in excess of ninety percent of the time! But, I’m here to tell you that there is a better solution for overcoming your nicotine addiction; one that doesn’t include patches, gum, hypnosis, psychoactive drugs or nonsense!

WHY YOU SMOKE

As with every type of habitual behavior, I believe smoking is a choice. I also believe that this choice can be broken down into the following two categories

  1. Individuals who occasionally enjoy a cigar or cigarette socially
  2. Individuals that smoke to alleviate their emotional distress and anxiety

Although there is health risks to consider when smoking, individuals that fall respectively into the first category are generally capable of walking away from it without any difficulty whatsoever. Comparatively speaking, this parallels individuals who drink occasionally and or socially. The second category represents individuals who have become dependent on smoking to alleviate there emotional distress and anxiety, whereby making it extremely difficult to achieve smoking cessation, unless they remove the root cause. I am vehemently opposed to labeling anyone since I believe that we are all created equal, but for the purpose of greater understanding these people would fall into the medical community’s definition of a nicotine addict. As we discussed earlier, most physicians, therapist, hypnotists, counselors and smoking cessation experts would have you believe that smoking is caused by a chemical co-dependence and/or that it is a learned behavior. Well, I have a different take on those theories, and I have proven over and over again in my Addiction Recovery Coaching practice that the root cause of addiction is the need to mask emotional distress. These emotional issues are often rooted in the negative patterns of family dysfunction, and smoking is no exception to the rule. Although when it comes to a smoking addiction, the primary type of emotional distress involved is anxiety. In many ways, smoking is used as a coping mechanism for those of us that are nervous, fearful, or anxious about our family, job, relationship, or financial well being. This frantic effort to control life often leads to smoking or a nicotine addiction. In essence, smoking is a crutch! But, why do some people react to the unknown with anxiety while others face it calmly with the belief that things always works out? I believe the answer to this question is twofold. First, some people naturally possess a higher level of coping skills, and second, some people have learned to conquer their fears, insecurities and most important their anxieties!

THE PSYCHOACTIVE EFFECTS OF NICOTINE

As nicotine enters the body, it is distributed quickly through the blood stream and can cross the blood brain barrier in approximately seven seconds. The life of nicotine in the body is around two hours. The amount of nicotine absorbed by the body from smoking depends on many factors, including the type of tobacco, whether the smoke is inhaled, and whether a filter is used. Nicotine’s mood-altering effects vary by report. Initially, it causes a release of glucose from the liver and adrenaline from the adrenal gland, which produces a stimulating effect. However, users report feelings of relaxation, sharpness, calmness, and even alertness. When a cigarette is smoked, nicotine-rich blood passes from the lungs to the brain within seven seconds and immediately stimulates the release of many chemical messengers such as epinephrine (adrenaline) and dopamine a neurotransmitter, which results in enhanced pleasure, decreased anxiety, and a state of alert relaxation. However, as the body adapts it requires increased amounts of nicotine to produce the same effect, whereby creating a trap!

WITHDRAWAL

Many of the proponents of the chemical dependence model believe that when you stop smoking, your body reacts very quickly to the lack of nicotine in your system. They claim that over the course of three to five days, you are likely to experience a number of the following physical symptoms as the toxins are flushed from your body:

  • Increased irritability, frustration, or anger
  • Anxiety, tension or nervousness
  • Restlessness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Increased appetite and weight gain

However, I have seen no empirical evidence to conclusively prove that most people experience the above-mentioned symptoms because of the lack of nicotine. I believe that most of these symptoms exist prior to smoking. Therefore, once you stop smoking the anxiety, restlessness, lack of focus, fatigue, and sleeplessness resurface. The nicotine was merely a masking agent! In essence, smoking is a means by which to alleviate ones anxiety and emotional distress. Think about it for a moment, and ask yourself the following questions:

  • When you smoke does it calm your nerves and relieve your anxiety?
  • Do you find it difficult to manage your anxiety without the crutch of smoking?
  • What has caused your anxiety? What dysfunctional patterns have you learned in the past that have damaged your self- esteem, confidence, or willingness to trust?
  • Do you find it difficult to avoid worry and to trust the flow of life?
  • Are you fearful about negative outcomes concerning your relationship, job, or financial situation?

Once you explore these questions, you may begin to discover the vehicle that is driving your smoking addiction!

Overcoming your nicotine addiction is really all about removing the source of your emotional distress, isn’t it? If you could remove the anxiety, nervousness, and emotional distress you wouldn’t need to alleviate it with the psychoactive substance called (nicotine?) Smoking is a symptom of underlying emotional distress and anxiety. Therefore, when you fix the root of the problem smoking becomes repulsive.

Learn how to make your urges to smoke dissolve on the spot! Learn how to make smoking become repulsive to you! Learn how to crush your last pack of cigarettes and walk away forever!

Quit Smoking Habits Through Hypnotherapy!

January 6th, 2011 by admin

Smoking is a habit that dies hard for most individuals because they take up the habit of smoking for various reasons. Some just start smoking as a show off and in the long run they get addicted to the nicotine and cannot say no to smoking. It becomes difficult for individuals to consider stopping smoking as it takes a good deal of their will power to achieve the process. It may have occurred to you that you can stop it over a small gap, but get lured to the habit once again if you find an opportunity.

People might have undertaken several methods to quit smoking but gave up eventually as most of the processes include medications and more importantly will power. If the person is not strong willed, then the task may become really difficult for him to go through forcing him to consider other options. Since the physical treatments would not have any affect on you to stop smoking, hypnotherapy can seem to be an option. The process is quite simple and you need not get worked up as the therapist would proceed really slowly with the process of hypnotherapy.

Under the hypnotherapy treatment you need to find yourself a suitable therapist who would take up your case and ask you to fill in certain questionnaires. A simple question answer session may also enable him to understand you better which would allow him to chalk out his work. Every therapist in the beginning tries to analyze their patient’s state of mind to confirm your condition, and they would ask you to undergo the hypnosis sessions with them. These sessions would include the therapist hypnotizing you and reaching to your subconscious mind where they might convince you not to smoke.

It is essential that the therapist treat you under you subconscious mind as under such situations you are vulnerable to listen to what you are told. On several occasions, it has been noticed that individuals need to smoke is absolutely psychological forcing the therapist to change the individuals mind frame about smoking. To stop smoking, hypnotherapy becomes essential at a point where medicines and will power fail to cope with the condition. By reaching to your subconscious, the therapist would provide you with several brighter aspects to life without smoking instead of forcing you to stop.

Stop smoking hypnotherapy treatments may continue over several days ranging from weeks to even months. The therapist does not rush with the treatment and allows you to continue sessions with him whenever you feel comfortable. This method has turned out to be one of the best solutions to give up smoking though it is a long drawn process. Hypnotherapy could be the best solution to stop smoking if the person is ready to carry out the sessions properly. It is also required for the individuals to go over the recorded sessions whenever they are relaxing in their free time at home or at work places.

Quit Smoking Hypnosis To Quit For Good

December 26th, 2010 by Sharon Stenning

Of all the things that people know they should do, stopping smoking comes on top of the list. However, it is extremely difficult to stop smoking and even harder to stop smoking for good. Thankfully, with the willpower and determination to quit someone is on their way to becoming a non-smoker. Yet, most people can not do it alone. Some things that can help make it easier include: quit smoking hypnosis, patches, counseling, support groups, and pills.

Everyone is different in what they need to help them successfully quit. Many people do not prepare themselves for all the cues that will make them want to smoke again, so they quickly relapse. Having the proper tools that will make you successful is the key to staying quit.

Most products on the market today have been tried by a variety of people and tested for their effectiveness in research trials. You can quickly find out which product is rated the most effective based on personal experience or research. While many people try and do quit smoking cold turkey, it is a difficult road to travel.

You will find that the prices of products to help you range in price a great deal. It is useful to research how effective a product is to see if it is worth the money and possible time commitment that it will entail.

An effective way to help eliminate the urge to smoke, making quitting a painless process, is by hypnosis. Hypnosis works by the power of your mind through suggestion. It will make you no longer desire cigarettes as you used to. This type of service does not take a large time or money investment, and can effectively and quickly make it so you no longer wish to smoke.

It is not so much the nicotine that creates such a dependence and difficulty to stop cigarettes, but it is the psychological cues that are a hard habit to break. This is what causes a lot of relapses, long after the smoker has detoxed from nicotine. Fortunately, with hypnosis your body will think and act like a non smoker right away.

Hypnotism is a tool used by everyday people and celebrities, that have the desire but need extra help to successful stop smoking. It is extremely cost effective, when you consider how much a pack of smokes cost today, upwards of $8 a pack depending on where you live. For a one time investment in a stop smoking CD you can rid yourself of this terrible addiction once and for all.

What is great about Quit Smoking Hypnosis is that you can purchase CD’s to use at home, without having to make an appointment and spending more money on a session with a hypnotist. How Does Hypnotherapy For Smoking Cessation Work?

December 9th, 2010 by Bill Sadick Cht

Hypnosis to stop smoking is a very effective tool. It could be the fear of letting go of a comfortable old habit that prevents you from quitting, hypnosis for smoking acts on the subconscious and unconscious thoughts to automatically help you to change,

It’s also good to know that hypnosis is totally natural, so it’s a threat free way of kicking the habit. The wonderful thing about using hypnotherapy is… there’s no medication required and no nicotine is involved. Thus, hypnotherapy for smoking is one of the safest techniques available.

The main problem with many quit smoking programs is that the conscious mind gets in the way. Using hypnosis, you’ll be able to bypass the conscious mind and work with your subconscious. Using inspirational words and images you are then be able to get into a relaxed state whereby your unconscious accepts suggestions that strengthen your will and determination to quit smoking.

Other than strengthening a person’s will to beat the desire to smoke, there are additional reasons why you would want to choose hypnotherapy for smoking:

Hypnotherapy relaxes your body and mind and can help manage your emotions.

Hypnosis helps reduce stress while soothing and calming you.

Helps eliminate bad habits; During hypnosis, the subconscious mind gets positive reinforcement through suggestion. The subconscious mind then begins to think that this behavioral pattern is what you desire and stores it to help make it part of your natural behavior.

Hypnotherapy improves your chance of success by as much as 66% over trying to quit smoking on your own. Your commitment, dedication along with some effort is needed to help hypnosis work for you. To become a Non-Smoker you need to take the sessions seriously, determining before hand why you want to quit. Then figuring out what’s most important about quitting today and how that’s different from a time you may have tried to quit before.

Your commitment, dedication and effort is very important for hypnotherapy to work. Taking you hypnotherapy sessions seriously is very important if you really want to stop smoking permanently. Without your degree of commitment, it is unlikely hypnosis will work for very long.

Bill Sadick has been in the field of Hypnotherapy For Smoking for a long time and maintains a website about Smoking Cessation where you can get answers to the rest of your questions.
