My died had died of lung cancer from smoking. finally he went to a hypnotist and he quit and has stayed quit for over 10-15 years. I quit cold turkey a 3 pack a day habit in 1976 . I helped a boyfriend quit a 30 year habit by giving him an herbal formula called herbpharm avena licorice compound (tincture). It is organic which means several times more potency than conventional herbs and in the best form that one should take herbs in ..a tincture (not capsules) http://www.morningstarhealth.com/909013.html he told me he had no cravings at all for 5 days and he did quit. The lobelia in it is used for tobacco and opium addictions. The formula is Indicated in the treatment of tobacco (nicotine) addiction. Lessens the desire for nicotine, supports the nervous system and the adrenal glands, and has a cleansing and restorative action on the lungs and bronchi. I was shocked as I had constant cravings when I quit smoking especially the first week. I would tried this first as it is a lot cheaper. I am sorry I can't give you more details on the hypnotherapy. I only know this is how he quit but not the details but do try this formula that is specific for quitting smoking. Many more tips on alternative health and quitting smoking are given in the wonderful reference book on all ills called healthy healing by Linda Page available at healthyhealing, com or on amazon no doubt.
References :
30 years study of alternative health, herbs and nutrition my brother tried to quit multiple times and couldn’t. Comment on does anyone have advice for people who want to try hypnosis to quit smoking? by Teddy http://www.hypnosissmokings.com/hypnosis-smoking/does-anyone-have-advice-for-people-who-want-to-try-hypnosis-to-quit-smoking/comment-page-1#comment-2399 Teddy Tue, 12 Jan 2010 16:33:51 +0000 http://www.hypnosissmokings.com/hypnosis-smoking/does-anyone-have-advice-for-people-who-want-to-try-hypnosis-to-quit-smoking#comment-2399 My first advice is to find a professional hypnotherapist with a thriving practice and a track record of success. There are good hypnotherapists and bad hypnotherapists like any other field. I wouldn't trust my money to one who didn't make a full-time living at hypnotherapy, and I wouldn't pick someone randomly out of the phone book. A good one will have a certification from the Society of Applied Hypnosis or the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists at the very least... And use it as part of a round of treatment. I've linked to an Ohio State study that talks about how effective hypnosis is for quitting smoking. Conclusion? It's effective, but it gets used with other treatments so much it's hard to say how effective it is as a standalone. I'm like, why wonder? Go ahead and use three treatments at once and quit smoking for good. What's it like? You'll meet the hypnotherapist and she'll explain what will happen. There will be a pre-talk, where you discuss your goals and she'll explain how hypnosis works (by speaking to your unconscious mind to build new habits). Then you'll go through an induction. That's just a fancy word for a relaxation technique. Once you're relaxed, the hypnotist will lead you through suggestions that will remove from you the desire to smoke. Some hypnotherapists make a tape of the session, or give you a stop-smoking tape to listen to in the coming weeks. By listening to the tape every day, you make sure the session sticks. And usually there's a follow-up session at the very least. You could just buy a stop smoking CD online. The only thing is, they're cheaper and people usually don't listen to them enough for it to take effect. An in-person hypnosis session has a lot more power than a CD. Is it pricey? It depends on how you do the math. A hypnotherapist might cost from $100 for a one-hour session, and might offer a one- or two-session treatment. So, about $200 to quit smoking? Walgreens has nicotine patches at $50 for a two-week kit... in a ten-week program. So that's $250 to quit. How much is a year's worth of cigarettes? In fact, being pricey can HELP you quit smoking. It means you take quitting seriously enough to pony up a lot of money in one session. Hypnosis works with your subconscious mind. When the subconscious sees that money change hands, it's like, "oh crap this is serious!" Best to you as you try to quit!
References :
http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/hypsmoke.htm My first advice is to find a professional hypnotherapist with a thriving practice and a track record of success. Hypnosis won't work for everyone - just like anything else. I'm sure there are plenty of people for who it's worked just fine. It certainly depends on how receptive you are to hypnosis and besides that definitively on the quality and probably also quantity - so yes, it could be pricey - but overall surely not as pricey as continuing smoking. I think hypnosis is one of the better choices in regards to quitting. You certainly don't want (or need) to go down the path of NRTs or drugs - those "aids" don't resolve anything. I myself actually quit cold turkey - very easily I might add. Most people have difficulty with this method because they expect it to be hard and they will miss smoking. I found this too the first few times. The trick is to sort your head out BEFORE you quit. It's all about your mindset. Be glad you don't have to do that anymore - that you are getting rid of this filthy addiction. Never think you will miss it - that's what makes it hard. But instead see yourself as happy, content and proud that you've done it. To get some more info on that check the resource below...
References :
http://www.quitdude.com/pdf/HowToEasilyQuitSmoking.pdf I have to disagree with Linda’s answer. Comment on How can hypnosis change bad habits like smoking, over eating, etc? by YA Junkie http://www.hypnosissmokings.com/hypnosis-smoking/how-can-hypnosis-change-bad-habits-like-smoking-over-eating-etc/comment-page-1#comment-2395 YA Junkie Tue, 12 Jan 2010 02:46:37 +0000 http://www.hypnosissmokings.com/hypnosis-smoking/how-can-hypnosis-change-bad-habits-like-smoking-over-eating-etc#comment-2395 There are different theories about how hypnosis works. Most hypnostists propose we have a conscious mind and an unconscious mind. To get to the unconscious mind, the hypnotist helps the client overcome what is called the critical factor. The critical factor is built up of years of conditioning and says things like "I can't get a really successful job" or "I can't quit smoking so easily," etc. Usually the hypnotist uses deep relaxation to bypass the critical factor of the conscious mind. The unconscious mind is very smart and ingenious. It pumps our blood, regulates our digestion and hormones, etc. even when we are sleeping. It is also a storehouse of thousands of memories our conscious mind has forgotten. Moreover, the unconscious is much more open to positive suggestions and can override the critical factor. In a session, the hypnosis gains access to the unconscious mind and floods it with positive suggestions to overcome negative habits like smoking, overeating, etc. If a person has an emotional problem like depression, the hypnotist can tap into the storehouse of memories in the unconscious. The hypnotist can guide the client to the initial causes of the depression and help the client overcome the effects of the trauma. This can be a complicated process and not all hypnotists have the training to do this. There are crappy hypnotists out there and good ones. Try to find a hypnotist with a good reputation. A personal recommendation from someone who has seen the hypnotist can help a lot. I don't think most hypnosis CDs are of much value. Generally, you need personal contact with a good professional. I wish you well.
References :
There are different theories about how hypnosis works. Most hypnostists propose we have a conscious mind and an unconscious mind.
