In most cases, a single hypnosis session is all that is required to kick the smoking habit, though some people do enjoy additional and ongoing support if they have a particularly bad habit of many packs a day.</p>
<p>Your smoking habit is not merely a physical addition, it&#8217;s a mental one.  The act of quitting can be difficult, but hypnosis can help you stop smoking by addressing your habit, not just your physical addiction, and by reprogramming your mind to make the process easier.  But where to start?  There are three possible ways to stop smoking with hypnosis:  </p>
<p>1.)  Work one-on-one in the office of a local hypnotherapist.</p>
<p>Some people prefer a hands-on relationship and enjoy visiting the doctor.  If you are one of these people, and feel comfortable speaking to a therapist, this method can be effective.  It can get expensive quickly though, and if you feel that you want or need more than one session, that&#8217;s more money out of your pocket.  It adds up fast.</p>
<p>2.)  Go to a group therapy session.</p>
<p>Less effective than a one-on-one session, a group session usually takes place at a conference center or banquet facility where a visiting hypnotist works with a large audience all at once.  The benefit to this method is that it&#8217;s usually pretty inexpensive, but the drawbacks are numerous.  There is usually no option for a second session if you feel you need one, the therapy is not personalized, and you&#8217;re forced to open up and let yourself go while sitting in a large audience of people doing the same.  If you are extremely trusting and highly suggestible, this method may work for you, but if you are the least bit shy, you may not do well here.</p>
<p>3.)  Use an at-home audio hypnosis program.</p>
<p>Some of the best benefits are seen with at-home hypnosis programs.  Quite simply, you listen to CDs (or an mp3), follow the instructions, and let the experienced voice of a hypnotherapist guide you into a state of hypnosis.  But the best part is that it&#8217;s recorded, which means it&#8217;s private.  You don&#8217;t have to feel awkward or uncomfortable in front of anyone else, and you can listen to the program as many times as you like, without paying anything extra (and that can save you a LOT of money!)</p>

You might even be feeling a sense of intrigue of trying something new. You could even enjoy hypnotism because, really, there is no reason not to. It is up to you.</p>
<p>Try this. Visualize a lemon that you grabbed from the fruit bowl. You&#8217;ve placed it on the cutting board. You&#8217;re going to cut it into quarters for some salmon that&#8217;s on the grill. You notice that after you have cut the lemon into quarters, there&#8217;s a lot of lemon juice on the board and the wedges themselves. Close your eyes. Visualized grabbing one wedge and biting into it. Take a few moments. Absorb the visualization. What has happened? Your tongue is tingling because I suggested that you bite down on a pretend lemon. You mind cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined.</p>
<p>Beginning with the basics of hypnosis, it is an altered state of consciousness. The hypnotized usually feel a peaceful relaxation and suggestibility is increased. Now, stage hypnotists, such as Paul McKenna, Justin James and Michael Bane, use this suggestibility to provide entertainment. These performers turn audience members into dancing buffoons, clucking chickens and the newly popular, strippers.</p>
<p>Clinical hypnosis tends to get more things done. Many people are familiar with hypnosis being used to help people stop smoking for good. Other people use hypnosis for weight loss. Less known uses for hypnosis is for light anesthesia for surgery and also as pain reduction techniques. It is truly where the brain is taking care of the body.</p>
<p>Disassociation is what many practicing hypnotist define the mechanics as. This is the state where the control center of the mind disassociates from its usual functions and are put into standby mode. The patient under hypnosis feels the world is dreamlike and sometimes is unable to fully recall the events that took place during the dissociation (trance).</p>
<p>Disassociation, where the memory gets split off rom the other parts of the brain, is also involved in cases of amnesia, and in severe cases, multiple personalities. However, under the control of the hypnotist, dissociation is very mild and temporary.</p>
<p>The command-center, the frontal lobe, is temporarily slowed down. Activity to and from the emotional control (limbic system) and the sensory perception (parietal lobes) are reduced as well. Without the executive functioning part of the brain fully engaged, the hypnosis is free to suggest commands that the fully engaged patient would dismiss. Most suggestion are easily adopted when the censoring, judging and criticizing part of the brain is on is not such a driving force.</p>

The Pretend self is one of three identities that dictate our actions and words.</p>
<p>First of all there is the Pretend self. This identity will fake it until you make it to manage life obstacles. Then, there is the Negative self. This identity focuses on all your negative habits and projects a detrimental image of the self. Lastly, there is the Authentic self. The Authentic self is the tender person you truly are at the core.</p>
<p>Because folks fear not fitting in, many people hide behind the Pretend self. It hurts to be judged by others. If you fit in, you won&#8217;t be judged. It takes a lot of energy to live the Pretend self and over time, you forget how to be an Authentic person.</p>
<p>When someone criticizes you, it is the Negative self that will latch onto those words. This self starts a running loop of negativity that constantly plays in the background. Particular triggers will activate the Negative Self. If someone calls you a name, you become upset. Your Negative self believes that you represent that remark. &#8220;Any negative traits you identify are not really yours &#8211; they belong to your negative self-image, and were programmed into to you when you were a child. By identifying them honestly, you can let them go,&#8221; states Paul McKenna in Change Your Life in Seven Days.</p>
<p>Conversely, the Authentic self is whole and content identity deep inside you. This self is the one filled with joy when loved one are nearby; the one that harbors dreams and aspirations. But, you must identify the negative and false dialogues that Negative and Pretend selves are running. You have the opportunity to change your life. <p>Try this for an experiment. With a friend close by, text them this message.</p>
<p>Scratch off lottery tickets were Your favorite. Who Knows what that is now.</p>
<p>Now make sure you capitalize the words scratch, your and knows. They have to stand out just a little bit. What you&#8217;ve done is embedded the command, scratch your nose, to your friend. Knows and nose are phonetically ambiguous, so don&#8217;t worry about that. Did your friend scratch their nose?</p>
<p>How people respond to communication is what NLP is all about. NLP practitioners use observations to determine which communications prompt the desired outcome and which ones don&#8217;t. New communication patterns are then developed for the patient. Programs such as stop smoking and losing weight utilize principles of NLP to create new responses to external influences.</p>
<p>When you communicate to other people, you communicate using your body, eyes, tone of voice, pace of speech and the speed of your breath. Many times not all of these are congruent and we end up sending multiple messages. Sometimes these messages actually conflict with what our verbal intent. What if you could get all these parts of your body and mind in sync and communicate what you really mean?</p>
<p>Like the desperate sales person trying to sell the client but the client has clued in on the anxiety and becomes guarded. The frustrated husband trying desperately not to lose his temper, but the wife reads the tenseness in his hands and begins to pace the house nervously. What about the insecure student who&#8217;s teacher reads his shyness as insubordination and manages to alienate him further from learning?</p>
<p>With miscommunication everyone loses. People picked up poor communication patterns through unsuccessful interactions with friends and family. They are destructive and at best unproductive.</p>
<p>NLP has to do with communication intent. It&#8217;s a set of descriptions of what works and what doesn&#8217;t. Now every individual has a different set that works for them, so there is no one set that everyone can refer to. But, with NLP, you can heighten you awareness of yourself and communication habits by reading the shifts in behavior in others. How others respond provide the feedback of the way you communicate. Can you imagine, one, figuring out how to the brain responds to language tactics and then, two, skillfully using language (like Cesar Millan with dogs) to work with clients, your parents, your partner and the kids?</p>

<p>You know what your smoking habit is like. You know what makes your craving to smoke the strongest. You know what daily problem areas make you struggle for control the most.</p>
<p>A modern hypnosis program addresses your problem areas directly. Using the knowledge of how they were formed in the first place. With a goal of removing the craving, urge, desire, whatever you call it. With the craving out of the way, you&#8217;re left with a simple decision to smoke or not. There is no mental arguement.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s good, and it can be even better. Why not use the same learning principles behind the smoking habit creation and use hypnosis to begin cravings or desires for water, exercise and fresh air? Then prepare some distractions to occupy your time and mind. The time you used to use smoking. At 5 to 10 minutes per cigarette, that time adds up. Some people would be satisfied with this much help. <p>PBS.org estimates most gamblers spend four hours in a casino and spend $580.00. This amount is for the recreation gambler, this number can more than double for an addict. Just the thought of winning the jackpot is enough to intrigue anyone, but for someone who suffers from addictive behaviors, this thought only adds fuel to the fire. Links to addiction can sometimes be traced back to a memory. It could be something as simple as being a child and hearing your parents talk about winning the lottery and never having to work again. You and your parents might have talked or dreamed about what you would do with all that money. As you get older you associate happiness and financial freedom with the lottery or gambling.</p>
<p>Marketing companies know exactly how to hook you on almost any product, that&#8217;s why they get paid the big bucks. They want people to be drawn to their products and spend money. When you walk into a casino or enter an online gambling website, you are greeted with bright colors, flashing lights and visually appealing games or machines. Who can resist a progressive slot that is over 20 million dollars! Every time you see those numbers increase on that progressive slot, an emotion is triggered, usually a happy one, but it could also be an excited one or simply one of anticipation to get that giant chunk of change off of ten cents! These can be very powerful feelings and persuade you to play, quickly you become sucked into the marketing trap.</p>
<p>Obsession is something most gamblers are familiar with. You start playing the slot machine or online game, you usually start in small amounts. Maybe you win some money. Why not play the money since it is money you earned, not put in. Of course you lose your money, so you play a little extra to win back what you already spent. Next thing you know, you are gambling away your house payment, each time thinking to yourself, the next one I will win big. This obsession quickly takes over your mind and you life. Before you know it you have gambled away everything in your life you were trying to save, you marriage, house, savings account and the kids&#8217; college fund.</p>
