<p>Does the problem lie with weight loss programs?</p>
<p>There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands of weight loss programs available. I haven&#8217;t tried them all. Nobody has. However, I suspect many of them are decent programs.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s more surprising is that losing weight isn&#8217;t really a secret. I believe weight loss programs offer value because they give people a blueprint to follow. Any program that promotes eating more fruits and vegetables, eating less and doing more exercise is sound. Having a blueprint to follow helps. The more detailed, such as a day-by-day and week-by-week program is helpful.</p>
<p>The problem isn&#8217;t necessarily with the weight loss programs</p>
<p>Jumping from one diet to another isn&#8217;t the solution. Most diets and weight loss programs are decent and can work. The secret is not finding the magical program. The secret is sticking with the weight loss program. That&#8217;s the key for many people.</p>
<p>Recently I was at a large dinner and a person at the table admitted as much (hence my inspiration for this article). She said she had a great diet program that worked wonders; however, the problem was she didn&#8217;t stick with it. when she stopped, the weight came back. I suspect rather strongly that her weight loss predicament is widespread.</p>
<p>Seeing it through is key</p>
<p>Seeing a diet program through and changing one&#8217;s lifestyle is the key to permanent weight loss. Yo-yo dieting doesn&#8217;t work. Crash diets may work in the short term, but not in the long term. What&#8217;s needed is a change in mindset &#8211; a true behavioral change. Simply following a weight loss program isn&#8217;t going to deliver a deeply-routed behavioral change.</p>
<p>What helps with deep-rooted change?</p>
<p>Any motivational tool that facilitates persistence is the key. There are many methods &#8211; including meditation, mantras, books, hypnosis, support groups, diet-buddies, accountability groups &#8211; all of these can help with motivation.</p>
<p>One motivational tool I like is hypnosis. I like it because it&#8217;s easy and you can do it at home. It can also be a supplement to the other tools (i.e. books, groups, partners, etc.).</p>
