In certain medical illness, hypnosis is far safer and superior to other therapies. You are changing information in your unconscious mind. This is much better than treatment with drugs that have unpleasant side effects and after treatment, the results are long lasting.</p>
<p>There are several people who are apprehensive about having hypnotherapy. This is partly because of the bad impression given by stage hypnotists but mainly because some people feel they are losing control. To counteract this, it is best to find an experienced and reassuring hypnotherapist. The other solution is self hypnosis. This is harder but in the end a much better option. Either sit on a chair or sofa or lie on the floor. Support your head. Fix your eyes on an object at eye level and try to remove all thought from your mind.</p>
<p>Now pay attention to your breathing. Breathe in slowly and deeply through your mouth. Hold your breath for a short while then breathe out slowly. As your breathe out feel yourself relaxing. Deepen the relaxation by imagining you are walking down a set of stairs and you are going down into a deeper and deeper sleep with every step you take down.</p>
<p>When you are satified that you are in a good relaxed sleep, anchor this happy state by associating it to a specific object or word. If you continue to practice this, one day you will be able while fully awake to reproduce this relaxed state by thinking about this object or word.</p>
<p>There are numerous websites on the Internet advertising self-hypnotic tapes for all types of illness. I have no doubt that they are effective but it is much better to record your own script targeting specific topics you want to address. In fact you should make a big list and incorporate them into one script. You can then record it onto a CD using your own voice and play it while you relax.</p>
<p>At the end of the self hypnosis session, it is time to wake up. You do this by counting up from one to five and tell yourself that as you count up, so you are gradually waking up and at five you will wake up and will be wide awake, calm and relaxed. Keep doing your self hypnosis session regularly and the more you do it, the better you be get at it.</p>
